The Edo State Executive Council has approved a revised supplementary budget of N799.820 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, up from the initial N675.220 billion. The adjustment represents an increase of about N125 billion (18%).
The approval came after an emergency executive meeting held on Monday, September 29, 2025, and presided over by the Chairman-in-Council and Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Finance, Emmanuel Okoebor, said the revision reflects the government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development.
“Previously, we had a budget of N675 billion with 33% for recurrent expenditure and 67% for capital. The revised budget now allocates 70% to capital expenditure and 30% to recurrent, showing Governor Okpebholo’s strong commitment to infrastructural development in Edo State,” Okoebor explained.
He further noted that recurrent expenditure rose by about N12 billion, largely due to the new minimum wage and recent employment in the Hospital Management Board, while capital expenditure increased by N113 billion, representing a 25% rise.
“The government is clearly focused on infrastructure, with about 254km of roads already completed and many more projects ongoing,” he added.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohombamu, confirmed that the revised budget will be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.
