Edo Assembly Clears Eight Commissioner Nominees, Flags Gender Imbalance

The Edo State House of Assembly has confirmed the clearance of eight commissioner nominees submitted by Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The approval followed a request from the governor, which was reviewed by the House Committee on Rules, Business, and Government House. The committee presented a report containing eleven findings and one recommendation, which the lawmakers subsequently adopted.

Speaking on the outcome, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, explained that all nominees were qualified indigenes of the state, with the competence and experience required to serve effectively. He urged them to work in synergy with the governor to drive the state’s development agenda.

However, the Speaker raised concerns over gender imbalance, noting that only one of the eight nominees cleared was female.
