Abuja – The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to assemble a team of medical experts to evaluate the health condition of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice James Omotosho instructed that the medical report be submitted within eight days to aid the court’s decision on Kanu’s request to be moved to the National Hospital, Abuja, for comprehensive treatment.
The judge also directed the NMA committee to inspect the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility to determine if it is equipped to handle Kanu’s medical needs.
According to the order, the committee should comprise 8 to 10 members, including a cardiologist, a neurologist, and the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital. The team is also permitted to use any hospital in the country in the course of its investigations.
