Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has shut down persistent rumours that her rise in the music industry was part of a scheme to dethrone fellow rapper Nicki Minaj.
The speculation resurfaced after a leaked video showed rapper Ye claiming Cardi was an “Illuminati plant” meant to replace Minaj.
“I Was Destined for This”
Speaking on Wednesday’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Cardi B dismissed the theory as baseless. She stressed that her career success came from talent and destiny, not from industry manipulation.
“No record label signed me with the intention of sabotaging another artist’s career. I was destined for this,” she said. While she avoided naming Minaj directly, her remarks clearly addressed the long-standing speculation.
On Female Rap Rivalries
Cardi also challenged fan-driven narratives about hidden agendas in the rap industry. “Sometimes people just don’t get along with each other,” she noted, explaining that disagreements among artists shouldn’t always be seen as sabotage.
History With Nicki Minaj
The rivalry between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj has been heavily covered, most notably in 2018 at New York Fashion Week, when a confrontation escalated after Cardi allegedly threw a shoe at Minaj.
Today, however, Cardi’s comments suggest she wants to move the spotlight away from feuds and toward her accomplishments as one of hip hop’s leading figures.
