Benin City Residents React to Former President Buhari’s Passing with Mixed Reflections

Following the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, residents of Benin City have expressed varied reactions regarding his life, legacy, and leadership, both as a military ruler and a civilian president.

During Community Square, a Vibes FM News and Current Affairs program, Rafatu Shaibu reported that many callers shared critical reflections on Buhari’s time in office. Emmanuel, a caller from Uyiosa, described the late president’s death as unfortunate but noted that Buhari’s administration failed to improve Nigeria’s economy.

Another participant reflected on Buhari’s 1983 military coup, describing it as a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history, crediting his military regime with restoring national discipline at the time.

Kelly and Oduma, calling in from Ikpoba Hill, expressed sadness over Buhari’s death but questioned why he wasn’t treated within Nigeria during his illness, raising concerns about the state of the country’s healthcare system.

Community Square airs daily on Vibes FM, providing a platform for public discourse on national and local issues.
