Veteran actress Amy Madigan has won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 98th Academy Awards, defeating Nigerian-British star Wunmi Mosaku in one of the night’s most closely watched categories.
The ceremony, held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Hollywood, United States, was hosted by Conan O’Brien. Madigan’s win for her role in Weapons marked the first award announced on the night, setting the tone for a highly competitive evening.
Mosaku had earned widespread acclaim for her performance in Sinners, a film that also featured standout performances from Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, both of whom received nominations.
The night, however, belonged largely to One Battle After Another, which emerged as the biggest winner. The film clinched Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, alongside multiple other awards.
In the acting categories, Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for his role in Sinners, while Jessie Buckley took home Best Actress for Hamnet. Sean Penn secured Best Supporting Actor for his performance in One Battle After Another.
Other notable winners included Sinners, which claimed Best Original Screenplay, and KPop Demon Hunters, which won Best Animated Feature. In the music category, the song “Golden” from the same film earned Best Original Song.
The Oscars, widely regarded as the most prestigious awards in global cinema, celebrate excellence across acting, directing, screenwriting, and technical achievements, bringing together the film industry’s biggest talents each year.
