Akpabio, Bamidele Defend Senate Over Concurrence Bill Delays

The Senate has dismissed allegations from the House of Representatives accusing it of stalling legislative processes by delaying concurrence on bills.

During Tuesday’s plenary, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele clarified that the upper chamber has been thorough and committed in handling bills received from the House.

Addressing claims that over 140 House-passed bills—some sponsored by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas—had been ignored, Bamidele pointed out that the Senate considered at least six concurrence bills just last week.

The Senate’s response comes after tensions rose in the House of Representatives, where members moved to suspend consideration of Senate-originated bills, citing consistent delays in concurrence from the upper chamber.

However, while presenting one of the House’s bills on Tuesday, Bamidele reaffirmed that the Senate continues to process concurrence bills in accordance with its constitutional duties.
