AY Makun Reacts to 2Baba’s Public Apology

He asserts that nobody is asking if he’s okay.

Comedian AY Makun Speaks Out in Defense of 2Baba Amid Ongoing Controversy

Comedian and filmmaker AY Makun has spoken up about the controversy surrounding music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, following the singer’s recent public apology for his comments on men and monogamy, and the buzz involving his new partner, Natasha Osawaru.

In a heartfelt and candid post, AY defended 2Baba’s honesty, calling the apology a rare show of accountability from a man clearly under emotional pressure.

“It’s always easy to throw the first stone at someone who stumbles,” AY wrote. “But very few people stop to ask the most human question: ‘Are you okay?’ And when they do, it’s often with judgment, not care.”

He continued: “What I saw was a man under strain, taking responsibility—not because he’s perfect, but because he’s human. As men, we’re conditioned to suffer in silence. Whether we’re right or wrong, we’re told to ‘man up.’ And when we do speak, it’s often met with blame, misunderstanding, or ridicule. Vulnerability doesn’t shield us—it exposes us.”

AY concluded with a pointed cultural observation: “Na who them catch? Na him be thief.” A reminder, perhaps, that society is quick to judge the one caught in the spotlight, while ignoring the deeper emotional struggles beneath.
