Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote has been advising him to save and manage his money wisely since he was a child.
Davido made the revelation while speaking about his long-standing relationship with the business mogul during a recent interview in Lagos.
According to the singer, Dangote has maintained a close relationship with his family for decades and has consistently offered him financial advice whenever they meet.
“Anytime I see him, he still tells me, ‘David, save your money.’ He’s been saying that since I was a baby,” Davido said.
The ‘Fall’ crooner also recalled Dangote’s close relationship with his family around the time of his birth, revealing that the billionaire personally drove his mother home from the hospital after she gave birth to him.
“Aliko Dangote drove my mom home from the hospital when she gave birth to me,” he said.
Davido said the advice has remained valuable throughout his career as he built his reputation in the entertainment industry and became one of Africa’s most successful music stars.
The singer also reflected on the personal side of billionaires, noting that despite their enormous wealth, they are ordinary people and their lifestyles may differ from the public perception of extreme wealth.
Davido further described Dangote as a close associate of his father, businessman Adedeji Adeleke, emphasizing that the relationship between their families has spanned several decades.
The revelation highlights the longstanding bond between the Adeleke and Dangote families and the personal financial advice Davido says he has received from one of Africa’s most prominent businessmen since childhood.
