A Senior Legislative Aide to the senator representing Bauchi South, Shehu Buba Umar, Abba Aliyu Tilde, has resigned from his position, citing a deterioration in his working relationship with the lawmaker.
Tilde announced his immediate resignation in a letter dated September 6, 2026, saying the decision followed what he described as a breakdown in communication, trust and mutual respect between him and the senator.
His resignation comes amid renewed allegations linking Senator Buba to banditry and terrorism. However, Tilde did not cite the allegations as a reason for his departure and made no claim connecting the senator to any criminal activity.
Instead, the former aide said his decision was influenced by how he was treated in the course of carrying out his responsibilities.
He specifically pointed to a recent visit by the senator to his ward, during which Buba reportedly held a meeting with residents without informing him.
Tilde said the development was particularly hurtful given his position and relationship with members of the community.
“Given my position and my connection to the people of the ward, I found this deeply disrespectful and hurtful. I believe that, at the very least, I deserved to be informed and carried along,” he wrote.
According to him, the incident was not an isolated occurrence, as other experiences had also made him feel that his contributions were no longer valued.
“I cannot continue in a position where I feel that there is little regard for my contributions or for the relationship between us,” Tilde added.
The former aide maintained that effective political and public service relationships require both parties to understand and respect their respective responsibilities.
He said the principles of “mutual respect, communication, trust, and recognition of one another’s roles” were no longer present in his relationship with the senator.
“Unfortunately, I no longer feel that these principles exist in our working relationship,” he stated.
Tilde consequently described his resignation as the most honourable decision available to him, saying he was leaving with a clear conscience after giving his best in service to the senator.
He, however, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work with Buba and wished the senator success in his future endeavours.
