The Edo State Government has issued a strong warning to contractors handling infrastructure projects, directing them to strictly adhere to approved quality standards or face compulsory reconstruction at their own expense.
The directive was delivered by the Special Adviser on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Williams-Bello Phoebe, during an inspection of key road projects in the Edo South Senatorial District.
Speaking to journalists, Phoebe stressed that the administration of Monday Okpebholo maintains a zero-tolerance stance on substandard work, noting that only projects that meet required specifications will be accepted by the government.
She revealed that a comprehensive monitoring exercise has been launched across the three senatorial districts — Edo North, Edo Central, and Edo South — to ensure compliance and uniformity in project execution.
“We want all contractors to know that my principal is very big on quality control. There is no tolerance for substandard work,” she said, adding that projects already at pavement level are being closely supervised to ensure proper curing and finishing.
Phoebe emphasised that the initiative is not only about enforcing standards but also about safeguarding public funds and ensuring long-term value for residents.
She warned that any contractor found delivering below standard would be required to redo the work at no cost to the state government.
“I want to inform contractors whose projects have not reached the pavement stage to do the right thing. We do not want it to appear as though we are witch-hunting anyone when we ask you to redo the work,” she added.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and professionalism, insisting that all infrastructure delivered under the current administration must be durable, meet contractual benchmarks, and stand the test of time.
