Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “afraid” of opposition parties as Nigeria approaches the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking to journalists, Amaechi, who has indicated his intention to run for president in 2027, said the APC-led government is in “panic mode,” attempting to distract Nigerians with noise and diversionary tactics.
He contrasted his record as Transport Minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari with that of the current administration:
“I thought the President said they were popular. What they are doing is panic measures. They are scared. If you are not scared, let’s meet on the field. Let the people choose who they want to choose. What they are doing is trying to force politicians on the people.”
Amaechi highlighted several infrastructure projects completed during his tenure:
- Itakpe-Warri railway
- Lagos-Ibadan expressway
- Kano-Kaduna road (under construction before Buhari left office)
- Kaduna-Abuja road
- Lekki Deep Sea Port
He challenged the Tinubu government to point to any similar achievements:
“Let this government show one thing they have done, either in the north or in the south, apart from stealing money.”
The former minister’s comments underscore growing tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures increasingly questioning the APC’s developmental record.
