Troops of Operation Desert Sanity under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, successfully repelled a terrorist attack in Borno State, killing at least two insurgents and recovering weapons and communication equipment.
The attack occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, when terrorists attempted to assault Special Forces troops conducting clearance operations in the Sambisa Forest. The soldiers engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight and thwarted the assault without sustaining any casualties or damage to military equipment.
Following the encounter, troops inspected the area and found two insurgent corpses, with signs that others had evacuated some of their dead and wounded. Recovered items included a PKT machine gun, three rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), 51 rounds of 7.62 x 51mm ammunition, 108 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, two Baofeng radios, a Redmi Android phone, and three Airtel SIM cards.
Sources confirmed that the troops remain highly motivated and operationally effective as clearance operations continue under Operation Desert Sanity.
