Two pregnant women abducted in Sokoto State have delivered a baby boy and a baby girl, respectively, while still in captivity, authorities and relatives have confirmed.
The women were kidnapped alongside six other members of their family from Takatsaba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area about seven weeks ago. A relative, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the abductees included five women and three men. During the attack, bandits reportedly killed an elderly man, leaving some children orphaned.
Efforts to pay ransom have been ongoing, with over eight million naira reportedly paid toward the ten million naira demanded by the kidnappers. Three of the victims, including a nursing mother, have managed to escape and are currently receiving medical care in Zurmi town, Zamfara State.
However, three young men and two women remain in captivity. The relative called on security agencies and the government to urgently boost protection in the area, emphasizing the need for “brave security personnel deployed to our communities.”
