Death Toll in Iran Rises to 555 Amid Ongoing US-Israeli Strikes

At least 555 people have been killed in US and Israeli strikes across Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent has reported, with attacks affecting 131 cities nationwide. Emergency teams remain deployed across multiple provinces, carrying out continuous rescue, relief, and medical operations.

The humanitarian organisation stated that over 100,000 rescue and relief workers have been placed on full alert to respond to the growing crisis.

The rising casualties come as Iran’s interim leadership moves to consolidate power following the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the joint attacks. During its second meeting on Sunday, the temporary leadership council, led by President Masoud Pezeshkian, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue the policies of the late leader.

Pezeshkian issued a stern warning to the US and Israel, declaring that Khamenei’s death would not weaken Iran and urging citizens to show unity and solidarity during the national period of mourning. He emphasized that the Iranian armed forces remain prepared for further confrontation and will continue to counter threats to the nation.
