Seyi Law Apologises Over ‘Nigeria Is Safer Now’ Comment

Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has issued a public apology following widespread backlash over his recent remark suggesting that Nigeria is safer now than it was a decade ago.

In a video shared online, the comedian addressed criticism trailing his appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he questioned whether kidnappings were a new phenomenon and implied that the country’s security situation had improved compared to 10 years ago.

Responding to the reactions, Seyi Law admitted that his comment was insensitive, particularly to families who have lost loved ones or individuals directly affected by kidnapping and insecurity.

“I’m not someone who is too proud to apologise when I make a mistake,” he said, adding that he has a track record of publicly correcting himself when wrong.

He cited a previous episode of the same podcast where he immediately apologised after incorrectly stating the political party affiliation of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

The comedian clarified that he did not intend to minimise the pain of victims but acknowledged that his statement came across as dismissive. He expressed deep regret over the remark and offered a sincere apology to those offended or hurt by his words.

Seyi Law also pledged to continue engaging relevant authorities on the issue of security, while reiterating his commitment to being more mindful in future public comments.
