Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, for trafficking cocaine concealed in his body.
A total of 127 wraps of cocaine, hidden in his private parts and ingested into his stomach, were recovered after days of excretion observation.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Ejiofor, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, was taken into custody on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, upon arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941, following credible intelligence.
“He was taken for a body scan, which confirmed he ingested illicit drugs and had some concealed in his private part,” Babafemi said.
An initial search led to the recovery of 58 wraps of cocaine from his underwear. During subsequent excretion observation, he passed out 69 additional pellets in seven separate excretions. In total, 127 wraps weighing 1.388 kilograms of cocaine were recovered from him.
NDLEA operatives also intercepted three separate drug consignments destined for the United Kingdom on Thursday, 9th, and Friday, 10th October, at a courier company in Lagos.
- The first shipment contained 1.74 kg of methamphetamine cleverly hidden in blocks of glass ceramics.
- The second included 114 grams of pentazocine and 168 grams of tramadol injections.
- The third contained 48 grams of tramadol capsules concealed in a Vitamin C container.
Additional interceptions were made targeting other international destinations:
- 2.6 kg of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol 250mg, hidden in black soap tablets, were seized en route to Turkey.
- 169 grams of cocaine hidden in ladies’ handbags were stopped from being shipped to Australia.
- 568 grams of Loud, a potent cannabis strain, concealed in herbal containers, were intercepted on their way to the United Arab Emirates.
At the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, NDLEA officers intercepted 27,510 pills of Rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks bound for South Africa.
A freight agent and a cab driver were initially arrested in connection with the shipment. A follow-up operation at Oyingbo Market led to the arrest of Samuel Omoruyi (alias Yellow), 46, believed to be the mastermind, on 2nd October.
On the same day, operatives arrested Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, an Italy-based businessman, for attempting to export 3,700 tramadol 225mg pills and 2,600 tapentadol 200mg tablets hidden in food items to Italy. Uyimwen confessed that he was trafficking the drugs on behalf of another person for a fee of €945 (Nine Hundred and Forty-Five Euros).
In Edo State, NDLEA officers raided the home of Emmanuel Sunday, 33, at Ugbekpe Ekperi in Etsako Central LGA, recovering 47 kg of skunk.
In Osun State, two suspects — Nureni Ayobami Eleweodo, 48, and Oladejo Taiwo, 52 — were arrested on Wednesday, 8th October, at Omifufun Village, Ife South LGA, after 635 kg of skunk was discovered in their Toyota Hiace bus (registration number DDA65ZY). Two additional suspects, Timothy Omiwole, 41, and Isaac Achiatan, 36, were arrested at the same location with 100 kg of skunk and a motorcycle.
In Rivers State, Okoro Julius, 20, and Onyebuchi Nwibo, 25, were arrested in different parts of Port Harcourt over the seizure of 8.5 kg of skunk on Friday, 10th October.
Similarly, in Katsina State, NDLEA operatives arrested Sulaiman Kalalu, 46, after 29.5 kg of skunk was found in his house at Bayan Asiti, Jibia Town, on Saturday, 11th October.
These arrests and seizures highlight NDLEA’s continued nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking networks operating through airports, courier companies, and local routes.
