Gov. Okpebholo Commences ₦4.6bn Settlement for 714 Disengaged Staff

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the payment of the first tranche of benefits to staff of the Colleges of Education, Ekiadolor and Igueben, who were disengaged under controversial circumstances by the immediate past administration of Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

This landmark intervention underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to fairness, justice, and the welfare of Edo workers.

A total of ₦4.6 billion has been earmarked to settle the entitlements of 714 affected staff—682 from Ekiadolor and 32 from Igueben. The payments are structured in four tranches of ₦1.16 billion each, with the first tranche already disbursed in strict compliance with the Pension Act.

In addition, the Governor has approved the immediate release of ₦292 million as the second tranche of pension entitlements for disengaged staff of the Colleges of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi and Agenebode, scheduled for payment on or before Wednesday this week.

With this intervention, the State Government has so far released ₦1.4 billion to four colleges, providing relief to hundreds of families while reaffirming its resolve to prioritize the welfare of citizens who have dedicated years of service to Edo State.

Governor Okpebholo’s bold action reflects his administration’s determination to restore dignity to workers, reposition the education sector, and ensure that no one affected by past policies is left behind.

The Edo State Government assures all stakeholders, especially retirees and disengaged staff of state-owned institutions, that the process will continue until every legitimate entitlement is fully settled.
