16 Passengers Rescued as Gunmen Abduct Commuters in Edo State

Passengers traveling in a New Edo Line bus and three other commercial vehicles were abducted yesterday, September 5, along the Benin–Iyere Agbanikaka Oluko Road in Edo State.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that 16 passengers from one of the commercial buses had already been rescued.

CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed the update in a statement and also via his official X handle.

“Sixteen of the victims have been rescued so far, as search and rescue operations by @EdoPoliceNG continue,” Yamu wrote.

Meanwhile, a video shared on social media this morning showed distressed commuters shortly after the abduction, which reportedly occurred around 4:30 p.m.
