Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Dies in Car Crash Weeks After Wedding

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 in a car crash in northern Spain, just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

Diego Jota had married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children, in the last fortnight.

Jota was traveling with his brother André, 26, who also died in the accident. Their Lamborghini reportedly suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking on the A-52 near Zamora, veered off the road, crashed, and caught fire.

Diogo’s brother Andre, 26, was also a footballer and died in the crash

Emergency services confirmed the fatal crash, which occurred in the early hours of the morning. Jota leaves behind his wife and three children.

A Medical Emergency Unit and Primary Care staff from the Mombuey Health Center responded to the scene and confirmed the deaths of both Diogo Jota and his brother André.

The tragedy occurred just two weeks after Jota married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso, in Porto.

His death was confirmed by Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, who expressed deep sorrow:

“Portuguese football is devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and André Silva. Diogo was not only a remarkable player with nearly 50 caps for the national team but also an extraordinary human being, respected by teammates, opponents, and the entire community. His infectious joy and character made him a true role model.”

‘On my behalf, and on behalf of the Portuguese Football Federation, I express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and André Silva, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where, respectively, the players lined up.

‘The Portuguese Football Federation has already asked UEFA for a minute’s silence, this Thursday, before the match of our national team with Spain, in the women’s European Championship.

‘Lost to two champs. The disappearance of Diogo and Andre Silva represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football and we will do everything to, daily, honor their legacy’.

Football lovers worldwide have been thrown into mourning after this unfortunate occurrence.
