The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has disclosed that about 7,000 Nigerian migrants are currently stranded in Libya.
She made this known during the official launch of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Strategic Plan for Nigeria (2025–2027), held in Abuja.
In her remarks, IOM Chief of Mission in Nigeria, Sharon Dimanche, noted that the new strategic plan was designed and developed by Nigerians, stressing that it remains fully owned by the country. She further appealed to the federal government and relevant stakeholders to give their full backing to the plan’s successful implementation.
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Yusuf Sununu, and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Ibrahim, were among the government officials present. Both pledged their ministries’ support in ensuring the IOM’s strategic framework is effectively executed.
